WOW

Talk about kicking the firefighters and their families while they are already down. Now, they are talking about the city going to PRIVITIZATION. What would that mean for us? David would be out of a job!!! We always thought that the firefighters, police, teachers, etc. have job security. Not anymore. WOW! I am dumbfounded, hurt, confused, speechless and scared.

They Lost the Vote! David is really bummed and upset. We talked tonight and this is the FIRST time I got him to consider moving out of state. I know it won't be as soon as I want because of the housing market, but at least it's a step closer to crossing those state lines!

VOTE

Today is the vote that *might* determine what happens with David's fire department. The Broward Sherrif's Office (BSO) wants to come in and take over Deerfield. There are pros and cons to every situation. And to our situation we want a vote of YES. For us, it would mean an automatic promotion for David, an automatic pay increase, more opportunities for further promotion, more opportunities for overtime. With the rising costs of EVERYTHING today, it is harder for families to just get by. Being a SAHM, and a household with only one income most weeks are difficult financially. This merger would possibly allow me to continue to stay home.
These firefighters who put their lives on the line EVERYDAY have not had an increase in pay in over 3 years. Can you put a price on a life? Absolutely not!
For us, this merger would help.
If they vote it down, David talked about leaving Deerfield. He has put his heart and soul in that department for 13 years. His heart will always be there but times have changed. Changes have brought everyone down in that department. The moral is down. This will be a detriment to the department as a whole if they don't merge.
I'm watching the coverage here and hope it turns out YES!

I got my toe wet!

I got my toe wet, so to speak. Instead of my whole foot. Just my toe.
As I dropped Miranda off to pre-school on Friday the program director asked me if I was available to teach. I took the plunge, well just my toe and said yes. I went back and helped Miranda's class because the aid had to leave. Thank goodness her teacher was still there. I haven't been in a classroom in 4 years. What was even scarier is that I've never worked with pre-schoolers, except my own of course. But that's different. Boy, what an afternoon. So much redirecting, and then all the whining and tattling and redirecting and more redirecting. It can be tiring redirecting your own child all day but how about when there are 13 of them. Needless to say I was beat. Today taught me that I am not ready to take the plunge. I'll stick with my toe being wet and that's all. I won't be able to work with preschoolers like I thought. What a different world. Much different than elementary school. God bless you Melissa for what you do everyday! I'm off to search for new avenues. Ones where I can take the plunge!

ABC order

Alphabetical order. Remember that? What was the purpose of putting our spelling words in order 3X every week? Remember? I enjoyed it anyway. When I was in school. I remember still putting things in ABC order when I was teaching. Student papers, student files, etc. It's a way of organizing. Keeping things in order. Easily finding things.
David wanted me to put his student's test in alphabetical order last night. Boy, did that bring me back to a place. A place where I loved to interact with children. A place where I loved to teach. I place where I got to have adult conversations. A place I'll probably be returning to in the fall.
This LO I did for a round robin scrap relay over here.
